چکیده

Introduction Dysfunction in the brain serotonergic (5-HT) system is thought to underlie human depression. Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are widely used antidepressant drugs whose therapeutic onset are delayed for several weeks whilst neuroadaptive changes take place in the brain, after which the previously disturbed serotonergic neurotransmission is restored. A suggested way of hastening the action of SSRIs is to combine them with 5-HT receptor antagonists. This effect has been shown with 5HT1A autoreceptor antagonists in rats, but was more variable in the clinic . 5HT2C receptor antagonists may also accelerate the therapeutic onset of SSRIs and the mechanisms involved are under investigation .

Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to explore brain function: cortical representations of language critical areas

Pre-operative determination of the dominant hemisphere for speech and speech associated sensory and motor regions has been of great interest for the neurological surgeons. This dilemma has been of at most importance, but difficult to achieve, requiring either invasive (Wada test) or non-invasive methods (Brain Mapping). In the present study we have employed functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging...

Aus der Klinik für Neurologie der Medizinischen Fakultät Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin DISSERTATION Neurovascular coupling studied in a rat model during pathophysiological states: implications for functional brain imaging in patients

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with BOLD (blood oxygen leveldependent) has become a standard tool for psychological and neurological research. It relies on the local adaptation of blood flow to increased neuronal activity a phenomenon known as neurovascular coupling. The effects of pathophysiological conditions on neurovascular coupling and its corresponding BOLD signal are largel...

Repeatability of Detecting Visual Cortex Activity in Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction As functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is too expensive and time consuming, its frequent implementation is difficult. The aim of this study is to evaluate repeatability of detecting visual cortex activity in fMRI. Materials and Methods In this study, 15 normal volunteers (10 female, 5 male; Mean age±SD: 24.7±3.8 years) attended. Functional magnetic resonance images were ob...

Altered DMN functional connectivity and regional homogeneity in partial epilepsy patients: a seventy cases study

Purpose Clinically diagnosed partial epilepsy is hard to be functionally diagnosed by regular electroencephalograph (EEG) and conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). By collecting transient brain regional signals, blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) function MRI (BOLD-fMRI) can provide brain function change information with high accuracy. By using resting state BOLD-fMRI technique, ...
